in this audio that i stumbled online back in the day there are wonderful insight into “Trane” – a Journalist asked him “how do you improvise” and his response “well, i start from a very specific point and then i go as far as possible but unfortunately i never lose my way” and the Journalist said “what do you mean?” and Trane responded “well, i wish i could lose my way, because i want to reach areas i don’t really understand”
